Rock n' Roll Couture - Spring 2012

 Jean Paul Gaultier

Paris Haute Couture....it has a nice ring to it doesn't it.  The dreamy week of fashion that leaves us drooling before ready-to-wear collections.  For me the undisputed king of couture is Jean Paul Gaultier.  The man is a magician and puts everyone else to shame.  This season he had 70 looks!!  Yes I said 70 looks compared to most of the other designers who show 10-30 looks.  I loved his homage to the late Amy Winehouse, he did a beautiful job paying his respects to her.  For a look behind the scenes of Gaultier's couturier search for a show called "The Day Before" on the Sundance Channel.  On this show they follow designers 48 hours before the runway and it is amazing all the things that can happen in 2 days.  I haven't been able to find it online, but if you do please post a comment.

But when I dream in couture there is only one house I want to visit....Givenchy.  If rock n' roll had a couture line this is what it would be.  Ricardo Tisci's unbelievable craftsmanship, texture and lines give me goosebumps.  I don't dream of the day I will be lucky enough to wear one of these gowns.... I just dream of the day I will actually get to see one in person.
